Course Description

Despite the increase in discussions for racial equity, communities of color continue to be left out of the conversations around wealth building, especially around the lack of diversity in financial advisers who serve them. Closing the diversity gap for financial advisors is critical to building wealth for African Americans.

In 2016, Keith Beverly, Managing Partner & Chief Investment Officer at GRID 202 Partners, launched the 20 by 2020 Initiative to help at least 20 African American advisers obtain the CFP® designation by the end of 2020. Today, in collaboration with Gary Clement, CFP®, CRPS®, CRPC®, AFC®, MPAS®, those efforts have continued.

In this webinar, we'll learn more about how this initiative is working to move the needle on financial planning strategies for diverse households.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how the racial equity lens is applied to investments

  • Explore how nuances in financial planning strategies can help diverse households

  • Learn about initiatives to increase the racial diversity of Certified Financial Planners

With over 15 years of investment management and financial planning experience, Keith’s responsibilities range from building customized investment portfolios to implementing sophisticated financial planning strategies for medical professionals, attorneys, and professional athletes. GRID 202 Partners has developed expertise in identifying private market investments that deliver attractive financial returns while achieving positive social impact.

A Washington, D.C. native, he is one of fewer than 20 African American advisors in the United States who holds both the CFP and CFA designations

Passionate about financial education — particularly in lower-income communities — Keith taught financial literacy for several semesters at the Washington Jesuit Academy near his hometown. Additionally, he has delivered numerous seminars and workshops to groups ranging from medical students to retirees.

Keith graduated from Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business with honors and obtained his M.B.A. from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he was a Dean's Fellow. He also sits on the board of North Carolina A&T’s Department of Family and Consumer Services, one of four CFP® Board-registered programs at a historically black college.
